Bus stations can be confusing and disorientating so our first concern was with simplicity and legibility. We treated the entire area as an urban square, using a very restrained material palette to act as a foil to the exuberance of the building. The only area where we introduced colour was in the wayfinding. Coloured strips, grading from red to yellow are a foil to the sober grey of the stone paving. Bay numbers and the name of the station are cast boldly into concrete, giving a sense of permanence and solidity that act as a foil to the constant movement of vehicles and people.
