In our first, but hopefully not last, excursion to Central Asia, we were commissioned to develop a concept for the setting of a new hotel in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgystan. Our proposals explore aspects of Krgyz culture and landscape – the patterns found on the traditional shyrdak carpets, the mountainous landscape and the native flora. The landscape will feature an arrival space for hotel guests, a new public square and the redesign of an adjacent public park.
