In 2023, Spacehub participated in Park(ing) day. In this global, public, participatory project, people worldwide temporarily repurpose kerbside parking spaces and convert them into public parks and social spaces to advocate for safer, greener, and more equitable streets for people.

Manifesto
We believed in creating people spaces, not car spaces. For one day we reclaimed a slice of kerbside and built a space that welcomed people to sit, socialise, create and relax. We successfully demonstrated the positive impact even the smallest intervention can have on the way we experience our urban environment. Our pop-up parklet occupied two car parking spaces on Calvert Avenue transforming them into plots that prioritised community, plants, and clean air.

Supporters
It takes a team to create special places for people and nature. Our park(ing) day installation was supported by:
– London Borough of Hackney
– Vestre
– Living Windows – Hackney City Farm
– Tree Musketeers
– Workspace

Thanks to the above collaborators we had an impressive selection of trees, plants and furniture to occupy and adorn our space. Members of the Spacehub team then got busy with creating temporary chalk art which welcomed public participation.
