Together with BuckleyGrayYeoman, we’ve been working on the redevelopment of Amex House – the ex-headquarters of American Express. In its place we have proposed a series of new high quality public spaces, a new pedestrian north-south route, residential gardens, amenity terraces and biodiverse roofs in and around this mixed use development.

Our proposed continuation of Mighell Street includes tree lined terraces to the north – opening up a previously closed site. Off of the street lies the Events Yard – a square activated by a café on the corner and the potential for markets, food and entertainment in the space.

We have always sought to reflect Brighton’s playful character within the landscape – hence our approach to the Games Garden and the Play Garden. The Games Garden is a terraced garden with space for ping pong tables, pool tables and boule games, plus the potential for an outdoor cinema screen.

For residents, the Play Garden has a series of terraces, each with a different theme and a continuous wibbly wobbly path running through each of them. We’ve been exploring in the studio the concept of play as a journey – this space being our most recent delve into exciting play for all ages.
