Bridge Close, is a major mixed-use development adjacent to Romford train station and town centre, being delivered by LB Havering. The project will transform a rundown industrial estate into a vibrant new community complementing a wider ambitious regeneration strategy extending south from the town centre. The proposals include 1100 homes, a new primary school, and a health centre along with community, retail, and commercial space.
In collaboration with Fletcher Priest, Allies and Morrison and Maccreanor Lavington architect, Spacehub have designed a comprehensive public realm and landscape scheme for the project. Central to this is the partial re-naturalisation of 250m of the River Rom. This replaces parts of the existing concrete channel with a soft riverbank and includes a number environmental intervention, such as planted coir rolls and timber fendering. A new pedestrian and cycle bridge over the River connects the station and town centre into a network of new pedestrian focused streets and space. All of which provide valuable urban greening, ecology, and sustainable urban drainage.
