The landscape proposals for 302-312 Stratford High Street create a welcoming and creative public realm, where community co-design, art and culture are embedded into the fabric of the landscape, celebrating Stratford’s heritage of making and craft. Within a mixed use redevelopment delivering student accommodation and community benefits, the design enhances Stratford High Street and Burford Road, prioritising pedestrian movement, social space, accessibility and urban greening. Ground floor interventions expand the public realm, including a widened footpath and a colonnade that provides a sheltered route along the frontage.

At the heart of the scheme is Crafters Corner, a new public space centred on the retained Indian Bean tree. A robust timber bench and pollinator-friendly planting create a sociable setting for the local community, while a decorative screen conceals services and integrates opportunities for local art. Natural stone paving is conceived as a co-created tapestry of materials, colour and text, reflecting local identity.

Planting enhancements extend across the streetscape, with a strengthened central median, new street trees and upgraded crossings that improve safety and wayfinding. At Burford Road, a renewed public space introduces additional planting, seating and upgraded materials to create a more usable and characterful environment.

The proposals also reconnect the site to the Channelsea River. While not publicly accessible, the river corridor is restored to enhance ecological value through habitat creation, new planting and the removal of invasive species. Within the scheme, Weaver’s Walk becomes a social lane for students, with seating, planting, cycle parking and vertical greening.

Together, the proposals deliver a layered and characterful landscape that supports wellbeing, biodiversity and everyday social life.
